Description

We are cleaning the folder structure of the Art 17 IG on Forum http://forum.eionet.europa.eu/x_habitat-art17report/library

We would like the url to become what it used to be: http://forum.eionet.europa.eu/habitat-art17report/library, ie removing "x_".

All folders from 2012 should have been inside a folder called "2001-2006 reporting". Unfortunately, those uploading the material did not think of the fact that future reporting would take place under Art. 17. Now, a "2001-2006 reporting" folder was created and all 2012 material should go inside that folder.

The folder "Conservation status - additional information" can be archived.

Please set up redirects from the old to the new location.

Done. I have renamed the IG and checked several links and files, the content is accessible without errors (renaming the site id is a risky operation).

The content can be moved by any administrator to any location using the selection boxes and the CUT and PASTE buttons. Select a folder, click on CUT, navigate to the target location and click on PASTE.

The folder "Conservation status - additional information" can be archived.

Please explain what you mean by archived.

Please set up redirects from the old to the new location.

Done. Any link to the old location, including deeper inside the folder structure are now redirected to the corresponding url in the new location.

I checked that the new URL works fine now, also the redirect with the old URL.

@Mette should we look together the moving of the folders?

#5 Updated by Mette Palitzsch Lund about 2 years ago

Thank you, Valentin.
Mikael (ETC/BD) will do the moving of the files.

Regarding "archiving", I don't recall which options there are?
The content of the folder is not seen as useful any longer, probably the easiest is that Mikael restricts it from public view (when moved) in the folder?

Mikael found a few more redirects that still needs to be done. He will update the ticket.

I'm not able to reassign the ticket to Mikael.

We can do an export of the data and then delete the folder, but I don't see why we would to this, since it will pose the question where to save the exported file, and it will be more complicated to restore, if this will ever be needed. The alternative is just to restrict the folder and leave it in the IG folder structure, as you have done.

Regarding the 3 other folders these have already moved once earlier.
I'll move them too, but it would be great if we could have 2 redirections for each:
link1 old1 -- http://forum.eionet.europa.eu/habitat-art17report/library/datasheets
link1 old2 -- http://forum.eionet.europa.eu/x_habitat-art17report/library/datasheets
link1 new -- http://forum.eionet.europa.eu/habitat-art17report/library/2001-2006-reporting/datasheets

link2 old1 -- http://forum.eionet.europa.eu/habitat-art17report/library/papers_technical
link2 old2 -- http://forum.eionet.europa.eu/x_habitat-art17report/library/papers_technical
link2 new -- http://forum.eionet.europa.eu/habitat-art17report/library/2001-2006-reporting/papers_technical

link3 old1 -- http://forum.eionet.europa.eu/habitat-art17report/library/qualityassurancereports
link3 old2 -- http://forum.eionet.europa.eu/x_habitat-art17report/library/qualityassurancereports
link3 new -- http://forum.eionet.europa.eu/habitat-art17report/library/2001-2006-reporting/qualityassurancereports

It is not the best idea to use apache redirects for all these cases (as we did for the renaming of the IG), since this means always the intervention of a developer or a system administrator, and it will clutter the apache configuration. The administrators can create pointers in the old locations:
  1. these have to have the same id as the old folders
  2. choose the new location in the pointer field
  3. select the checkbox "Automatically redirect to the pointed item"

I did this for the folders in question, please check.
